The CITYLOG Project
The CITYLOG Project which is started on January 2010 aimed to find solutions to city logistics issues mainly based on European cities. The main objective of the project is to improve efficiency of delivery system. It can be said that three alternatives through the project were developed and tested. The two cities which are Berlin and Turin (from Italy) are chosen to show the results of these tests. Moreover, we will share the test results with you to make sure you realize the importance and sustainability of implementations of solutions.
The first solution is “Logistics-oriented infomobility services”. There can be listed four tools as subtitles under the application: The optimized pre-trip planner, the commercial vehicle-targeted enhanced maps, the logistic-oriented dynamic navigation services and the last mile parcel tracking. These tools are elements of the application, and each of them has an importance from different perspectives. For example; while searching the optimal route, the optimized pre-trip planner also takes into account real time traffic data and legal restrictions and rules on the roads. Secondly, the commercial vehicle-targeted enhanced maps have important distinctions to a standard map to assist urban freight delivery. These maps emphasize both physical and legal restrictions to the trucks and vans.
The second solution is “Innovative Vehicle Solutions”. It is about the transshipment concept. The keyword in this development is the load unit. The idea and implementation of load units is crucial and also very sensitive in practice…
