What Is The Pathway Forward To Becoming Lean?
What is the pathway forward to becoming lean?
The philosophy of lean manufacturing was developed in Japanese at manufacture of cars. We know that Krafcik (currently the CEO of Waymo) coins the word ‘lean’ to describe the production system used in Toyota. On the pathway of becoming lean, one must achieve the identification and elimination of ‘waste’. There are several methods which contribute this aim in production. Kanban, poka-yoke, Five Whys are some of the tools which serves to the aim.
A system which is based on the idea of discarding all waste in manufacturing and called JIT was one of the four main concepts of Toyota Production System(TPS). The system was aiming to use only the necessary things at the right time. Programs associated with JIT include “elimination of waste, and full utilization of people, equipment, materials, and parts” (Davy et al., 1992)

Muda is the name of adding no value to the product. The reason why we see adding no value is a waste is about the definition of value.
